Family Council Update
The Family Council of the Beloved Disciples of Christ the Lord would like to update everyone on the status of the Diocesan recommendations for closure & mergers announced on June 13th.
This past week, the Family informed the Diocese that we would be presenting at least four counterproposals to the recommendations that they had made regarding merging and closing Parishes in our Family. These counterproposals are being prepared from the close to 100 written responses that were given to our Family Council from various Parishioners throughout our six Parishes. The Family Council members and the Trustees from each Parish have gone over each Parish’s individual recommendations and are crafting a counterproposal that best suits the wishes of each individual Parish community. These will all be presented to the Diocese for their consideration. We thank everyone who has sent in a written suggestion. The number of responses shows the concern and affection that people have for their Parish communities.
The final counterproposals will be discussed by the Family Council and Diocesan Renewal Team, along with Bishop Fisher himself, at a special meeting to be held on August 14th. We will share with you the final recommendations of the Diocese as soon as they become available.
In the meantime, the Family Council is delaying the publication of our Family Magazine until the final decision of the Diocese is announced. The next issue of the magazine will come to your homes in early September.
As this process continues, we ask that you continue to pray for the welfare of our Diocese and the successful completion of this difficult, but necessary effort in dealing with the declining number of priests and the rightsizing of the number of Parish communities to serve the people of God in the Diocese of Buffalo. It is the commitment of the Family Council to keep our Parishioners as informed as possible and we will continue to bring you updates as they become available. Thank you for your patience and let us continue to build a stronger Church for the future.
